What's new
January 2012
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Sorry it has been almost a year since I posted. My apologies, my new job has been keeping me very busy. If you are a client of mine, you know what I am talking about. If you are not, why haven't I helped you yet? Here are some new items that have come up recently. Let me know if you have any questions/comments additions.
The Cugini Annual Ornament Exchange
Sunday, January 8th starting at 1:30
You know there will be good eats and treats and yes there will be a football game playing on one of the tv’s.
For those of you that don’t know the rules, bring some type of food to share with your cugini (main dish, side dish, appetizer, dessert, etc) and an ornament that cost $5 (only if you want to play along). For those of you that haven’t gotten your ornaments yet, no worries, there are some really good deals on Christmas ornaments right now (after all, we are Castaldi’s). J (I got a $16 ornament for less than $4 – the Castaldi in me is so PROUD!)
John Mills is having surgery January 6th to have two spinal cord stimulators inserted to ease his pain. Prayers and thoughts are requested

I wanted to give you a quick update on Uncle Eddie.
Dad is still in the hospital. They found something wrong with his diffribulator, so they wanted to work on that. However, this is not what’s causing his problems. He is still retaining fluids in his legs, arms and alittle around his heart so we have to be careful with that. The good news is that there’s no fluid in his lungs. Unfortunately, we did get some bad news about his heart. His ejection fraction, which basically tells us how his heart is working, is now down to 10%. That’s a decrease of 8% since last September, which is a big jump. This caught us off guard. Because his heart is down so much, this is causing all the other problems he’s having. So, it’s a catch-22 now, starting with the heart. He did not have a good day yesterday.
I spoke to the Dr. this morning. He said that Dad was alittle more himself than he was yesterday. The plan is to get him stable enough so they can transport him to a skilled nursing home facility for rehab. Still not sure which one that will be. The hope (plan) is to get him moved possibly this weekend, maybe Friday, and they’ll have him for a few weeks. Once he gets there, gets going with the rehab, and we see some results, that’ll tell us what type of care Dad will need.
Please share this with the family. Thanks to all for their thoughts and prayers.

Letting you all know that I spoke w/KiKi on Friday AM. She's trying to put up with the snow they were having. She's still at her daughter, Kimm's house but wants to go to her own home. Her legs are still swollen and is taking cumidine (?) blood thinner. Can't spell it. Rats. She has short term memory loss and is so concerned that she can't write "thank you" notes to all you wonderful cousins that have sent her Healing cards and Get wells. I will say thank you for her and wish you all the very best in this wonderful, glorious new year.

Cugini Night Out (CNO)
There will be food, drink, spirited conversation and some of the best people you know there. Question is do you want to be there? Let the Mascherinos break bread at Saint Anthony's Lodge on the second Wednesday of each even numbered month. You can attend once or every time.
We'll be calling this: C.N.O. "Cugini's Night Out".
The first event will be on February 9 starting at 6:00 p.m. The costs can be separated or divided among the attendees: your choice. Sound like fun to you? It is simple to get in on this event. RSVP with Rose Regina or me by February 5. This way we can provide the Lodge with a proper number. No need to send regrets. Rose and I believe this event can be a success with as few as four of us there. It will be a great way for the family to become closer to one another. We also want to keep it easy and simple. We would both welcome your thoughts on this idea. There will be updates.

I wanted to give you an update on Uncle Eddie.
He’s had a couple falls at the house between the time he got out last week up until this past Monday, so we took him to see his Dr. and then to the ER. He did bang his head pretty good on the furniture so they did some tests and everything came out negative. That’s good because he’s on blood thinners and we didn’t want any additional issues cropping up. Thankfully, he did not fall down those steps and really hurt himself. His legs and feet are now swollen and so is his left hand. This is not a result of him falling, rather, it’s a result of his heart not pumping where it needs to be. Plus, he has fluid around his heart and he may have had some congestive heart failure. He is being tested for all this.
He is resting comfortably and is stable, but is definitely not out of the woods.
The plan is for him to stay in the hospital a few more days, then he’ll be transported to St. Martha’s for rehab. How long he’ll be at St. Martha’s will depend on how well he does with rehab. The fear is now he needs 24/7 care, but we won’t know that until he’s completed rehabbing. So, the hope is he’ll rehab well and be able to go home. But….If they can only go so far with him, well, and doesn’t get going, he may be staying there for good. Again this is all up in the air still because everything depends on how healthy they can get him.
So please, everybody please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I know he appreciates it.
